Building a Programmers Blog: Printable Pages

Depending on your chosen theme, pages on your site may not print very well. The built in Garland theme prints relatively well, with the sidebar blocks suppressed, but other themes are not so well behaved.

To test if your current theme works, you need to use multiple browsers. I found that the theme on my site printed acceptably with Internet Explorer, but not with Firefox or Chrome.

Fortunately, as so common with Drupal, there's a module to solve this problem. Download and install the Printer, e-mail and PDF versions module. With this module, a Printer Friendly Version link can be shown at the bottom of each node, linking through to a page that's designed for seamless printing. External links are even usefully shown as footnotes.
