Welli.NET: What's Next for .NET Developers?

An exciting start to the year with the Wellington .NET User group as Ivan Towlson presents on all the new stuff coming with Windows 8:

Windows 8 is expected this year, and it's shaping up to be the biggest change since Windows 95. It brings a new shell, the new Metro application model and user interface, the new Windows Runtime, and an aggressive focus on iPad-style consumer devices alongside the traditional desktop or laptop. And along with Windows 8 comes Visual Studio 11, featuring C# 5.0 and .NET 4.5 and support for Metro/Win8 applications.

Wellington .NET User Group End of Year

'tis the season of festivities - and on Wednesday night the Wellington .NET user group celebrated in true geek style. We started, as usual, with a presentation (details below), and then we retired to a local pub for some insanely hot chicken wings, a couple of drinks, and a geeky story or two.

Dynamic and meta-programming in .NET 4 with Ivan Towlson

Ivan's back, and he's brought his top rating TechEd talk with him. This presentation is pure gold, looking at the new stuff in C# 4 from a multitude of angles, and using it to do things with C# that you wouldn't believe possible. In fact, this talk was the inspiration behind my own "Easier property validation with dynamic in C# 4" blog post.

Owen's talk on HTML 5

Back on Wednesday August 3rd, Owen Evans gave a talk at the Wellington .NET User group on HTML 5. As usual, Owen gave a great talk. Here's an informal summary of his main points.

WDCNZ

I've got my ticket for WDCNZ - have you got yours?

The impressive schedule of talks is posing a bit of a challenge - which great talk do I go to? A nice problem to have, really.
